YMCA NSW, part of the oldest and largest youth organisation in the world, came to us to refresh and modernise their induction experience.
As part of a set of learning materials for new starters and their managers, we created a series of short induction modules to welcome, support, and inspire new starters in their first few days on the job. While these learners might access the learning on a desktop, they were more likely to look at the modules on a personal device during induction activities (eg. a site tour). Knowing the learners had mixed technical abilities, we used Articulate Rise to ensure a mobile responsive, easy learning experience. We worked closely with people from across the Y to ensure the tone and intent of these modules reflected what new starters could expect to experience in their new role.
Modules included video, animation, and downloadable resources for managers.
The approach to shooting video had to be rethought when Covid-19 struck and we were no longer able to film on-site. We shifted to using Zoom to record video and Zencaster for audio, providing guidance virtually and working with staff to capture their stories. Footage was then edited together and mixed with animation and music to produce professional videos with an authentic feel.
